Hi Kristina, what a warm and nice welcome. Thank you. Unfortunately I noticed this page not earlier than today. Hey, this community is exactly realizing my dreams, I dreamt in the MeatballWiki. It is the dream of a Social Common Wealth. You call it simply the Commons. I coined it independently Meatball:SocialCommonWealth and registered all the top level domains *.com, *.net, *.biz, *.org, *.info to develop them with full engagement: in my dedicated blog, in wikis, forums, mailing-lists.

To make it attractive as a community effort, I have been suggesting to my peers to:

• contribute digital goods and services, based on ideas, concepts, art, music, software.
• buy related domains, where the peers could amplify each other's efforts
• selling at last the domains to potent likeminded Internet players

This way, there is a good chance, that the community members can openly develop their ideas, based on the Creative Commons license (Author credit + Share Alike) and get also their "food on the table", which is not a trivial task, since most of the communities appear to stick to the Meatball:StayPoor meme and don't have yet detected the secret of the Meatball:HoofSmith paradigm. This metapher appears to me the base for a Meatball:OpenBusiness or more concrete: the base for a Meatball:OpenBusinessWiki.

Fortunately AboutUs allows the workers to realize some revenue for the thousands of hours, they put into their contributions. ( I am proud, that for some hundred hours of wiki publishing and blogging, I now earned nearly 2 US$ dollars by Adsense. :-) I hope, that as a community effort, each author at least gets enough revenue, that s/he is not forced to work for third parties, who don't care for the wellbeing of the planet.

Fridemar ... I love your energy on the UniversalWikiEditButton! There is one tweak to your style that I'd like to suggest. When I'm chatting with someone on their status page, I've found that I get a better response if I ruthlessly avoid trying to convince them and instead focus on listening to their concerns and tweaking the document to work from them. I love to convince people (salesman at heart), but I've found that I create a sort of allergic reaction when I include phrases that pressure them into changing from not yet to yes. I've gotten a high pressure sales tactic feeling from some of your comments and so thought I'd share my experiences in the hopes that they'd be helpful. Keep up the great listening work! Yes, there are not many edits in just one day... it's pretty crazy how the number of edits has been increasing so steadily. In the URL you can override it to show 1,000 etc. if you wish, but I believe it won't go back more than a week, but a person's contributions list and a page's history will. KristinaWeis

Hi,

I would just like to tell you about the WhoWeAre consensus poll. This is a unique opportunity for all community members to discuss and decide what AboutUs is and more importantly what role we, the community, plays.

The discussion is still in its initial stages and there are a handful of people involved in this discussion. But it's not enough. Every one of us has a stake in this process. We all need to air our views. Our opinions will make a difference. We cannot and must not let a handful of people define us. Hi Fridemar, feel free to improve the template yourself, if you like, or make a new one that meets your needs. I didn't write the template, but even if I did, have at it! Just so you know, I am a HUGE CamelCase fan, and would love for them to be automatically linked. And, I'm guessing we will not be modifying mediawiki in this way, but instead adding CamelCase support to TopSoil, when we get there. Using BiLinks is a cultivated form of using backlinks. They deliberately increase both, the value of the source and that of the target pages. Hopefully they will soon be supported by the WikiEngines or WikiBrowsers, because doing them manually is an exhausting (but worthwile) task. fridemar 17:22, 29 February 2008 (PST)

Fridemar: Hello Aaron, sorry for the disambuigation procedure (similar to the Wikipedia procedure), I didn't anticipate, because Aaron was not yet taken. In the case of Clarissa it was no problem; however in your case it appears to cause a problem (relativ to the other Aaron entries, who have a longer history here).

I think all the other Aaron entities will have a benefit from such superactive members as you (and myself), because this way they all get more exposure :-)

Yes TedErnst is an appreciated community and staff member, and has the painful responsibility to balance out a lot of different (often conflicting) interests. I thank him many helpful interventions and you will soon see, that he is on the side of friendly and constructive active community members. Frankly ask him or KristinaWeis for advice.

For synchronizing our goals, here my sketched vision for my next suggested steps: I would like to update and link my open domain portfolio to ExtremeOpenBusiness. This is realized as a rudimentary Google Spreadsheet to be developed into a buy/sell/makeoffer tool with an integrated payment gateway (howsoever, perhaps with your suggested LET, Ripplepay or GoogleCheck, Paypal or NamePros or ... transactions)

If you too create your open domain-portefolio as such a Spreadsheet, (even if it has a single entry) we can link them with each other and offer to act as pilot testers, simulating the endproduct with real world data.

We can go on, telling our Wiki:UserStory, formulating our Wiki:AcceptanceTest and running through the whole gammut of [Wiki:ExtremeProgramming] practises, inviting programmers of the OpenSource/CreativeCommons movement to programm such an interface for SocialDomaining.

We might consider EditGrid.com too, I have green light from them to use this wonderful Spreadsheet software for zero cost, although it is a (social) commercial application.

I see a lot of PR-relevant OpenMails we can write, to trigger the process, combined with real business transactions. En passant we will generalize the XP principles, adapting them to ExtremeOpenBusiness, applied to SocialDomaining.

There is so much stuff to collaborate on in HolisticMode (See Meatball:CollaborativeMode ), that every helping hand is welcome to participate.

It's important to strive for tasty morcel presentations of our ideas; otherwise our readers/collaborators will have to suffer from mental overload.

Basic Rework complete

I am wondering how much of the conversation mode you want to retain. I think the offers and acceptances we make are worth preserving in an 'as is' conversation but am inclined to slash up the rest for conciseness.

List of Reasons to Move

Thanks for the work on FromMeatballToAboutus as well. I was wondering if you could add your list of compelling reasons to move to that page which was originally on AaronPoeze in MeatBall.

Hopefully today this identity crisis (haha!) can be sorted. I guess we also need to explore what form of WikiBank-like process to use. There are so many part solutions. Is developing our own a good idea? I also think we would benefit by drawng in more people. That kind of begs them to ask what we are doing. Maybe this needs to be more prominent.

BlipTV and StenoMotion response

Aaron: This BlipTV certainly sounds promising. I had a bit of a look aorund and it doesn't seem to locked in which is even better. Of course it means your suggestion of 'like reality tv' was literal!

StenoMotion is a concept i do not yet fully understand. I watched your pieces on Youtube.

I have a vague idea of the intention. Which is to use shorthand in a sign language method. I suppose you know of my hearing impairment via the blog. As it happens I am one of the few with such hearing impairment that do know the local sign language (Auslan). I was brought up in a 'normal' mode with no special education.

However, I have some deaf friends and I understand how Auslan and some other sign works. Do you have experience with the deaf community in Germany? Aaron Poeze 03:49, 23 June 2008 (PDT)

Fridemar: Hello Aaron, yes BlipTV.com might be the way to go with ExtremeOpenBusiness; "i" looked at the site, but could only verify, that they accept the video flash format *.flv and not (yet) the more general format *.swf, which is freely hosted at swfpages.com and which "i" suggested together with *.wnk to be hosted at Aboutus (must find the link and redirect to it from SwfAboutus,WnkAboutus). Swf allows interactive videos with a scripted language and thus is superior to flv.

We can suggest it in an OpenMail to BlipTV, linked from BlipTV.com, to motivate them to make it an acceptable file format. If this doesn't work, we can reuse the same proposal, directing them to hundreds of other social video sites, who are represented on Aboutus, until some insightful providers accept this suggestion. This too is another example for the power of XOB.

• development, embedding all existing YT videos on special Aboutus pages and adding additional wiki-context.
• new YT or Blip videos

As a happy coincidence we both share the appreciation for the deaf community, "i" invite you to share investment-costs, work and gain for all the involved domains. Could you please tell something about G Auslan. It's a good implicit tip of you to initiate a contact to the German deaf community. You see, that our XOB calls for a lot of more people to join. It is perhaps best we synchronise here in public.

As you know I am grounding back into WikiSpace and we have several areas that need addressing. So here there is talk about my interests, yours and ours and we can move forward with it somewhere.

SocialDomaining I admit I am weak in understanding this element. Not so much the social side but the domaining side. I've simply not understood domain trading. It appears to have elements of preemption, market finding, word finding, development in a basic sense, and marketing to those who are likely to use the domain.

I know you have some skill in this area and certainly some experience but when I do it I feel rather lost in the woods about how to reach the end point namely WealthCreation in the general sense or even in the old fashioned sense.

XOB I still like this concept. It is imperative there are more than us 2 involved. If needs be we water it down into someone else's project. Whose? We can always fork/recreate/spinoff later. It is so difficult to find people who both have the time and the inclination into these non mainstream ideas.

A secondary thing is given the prevalence of closed business we have to find some open/closed balance with them for integrating business more broadly.

CoEditing Truly excited by this. There is Google Wave which i think shall prove a popular tool for this activity. We too experimented with an even more powerful version using the skype, yuuguu and wiki combination. It is perhaps possible to leverage this into something.

Criticism of Listening Few like criticism but I offer some. Your energy and, let's face it, enthusiasm for your various ideas drives you to a lot of activity with them. That much is good but it also makes you a poor listener. You hear the sounds and even have admirable English. But in expressing what you wish to express you sometimes miss what another wants to contribute.

Please also if you have a criticism of me I will hear it.

Too Many Fingers in too Many Pies One criticism I would extend to both of us is we lack focus. Our energy is fragmented into many paths, some of which I cover here. We need to direct more into one place and the keyword is discipline. I am working on this area. It's important and I think I shall provide information on my time schedule to make it easier for us to work together.

Reputation The reputation of (our) business conduct in OpenBusiness or XOB is critically important. We already know the role reputation plays in traditional business but in XOB one has no rock to hide mistakes and corruption under. This is a good thing but it also means exposure and the public are not always fair. WuffieBank is a concept I think we should keep an eye on. It could well become an integral part of XOB. One might, for example, buy actions and materials with Whuffies which, if the activity is productive, will earn a flow of whuffies because people respect the outcome. In this way XOB may appear hierarchical but it would instead be a meritocracy system where those with the skills/talents/sheer luck will enabled. One of course must be careful not to make it a barrier.

A cornerstone of good business I have come to realise is the concept of 'getting what you are paying for'. This is a crucial element I want part of XOB to maximise reputation. One of the key issues with many otherwise smart businesses, is the frequent outcomes where a participant has not gotten what they are paying for. Which is bad communication in some cases but is rather often deceit in one form or another. I doubt XOB can afford such behavior. I'm not even sure closed business can at the levels it's happening given how much the global business structure is wavering.

Stenography I think it would be a good idea if you put the idea to the deaf community and see their feedback. this would cost considerable time but would very much unline the strength and weakness of the idea. Possibly try deaf language translators too for the work and translation focus.

GenderMorph Something I'd not seen before though I know there are muscle morph enthusiasts. Its popularity does make sense to me and making the process fun is certainly a boon.

GenderMorph can be a positive experience for players in terms of understanding other genders, transgender tolerance, and the fun of being whatever you want to be.

One concern I do have is it's effect on reputation because of the imagery and the public perception of that might not be positive. In fact a broader issue is how to deal with public perception in an open system. We may need guidelines of good conduct which are neither so pandering to public whim that we are paralysed nor so flexible we expose ourselves to unnecessary reputation losses.
