  • Turns on 'Mark edits Minor by Default' feature for all his edits. Doing this to generate less noise as i go through pages. Will selective unmark for major edits when i make them. --Sa'ad [ talkemailchat ] 04:17, 2 June 2008 (PDT)
  • InfluenceUs Log seems a bit loan heavy right now. Kristina (contact me) 03:03, 3 May 2008 (PDT)
I asked Sa'ad about this a while back after Ted suggested I ask him; I'd like to see this issue touched soon. --Nick Burrus [ Talk - Contribs ] 02:51, 15 May 2008 (PDT)
  • Heads up on a hectic review DayOhPersians.com. I reverted non-review and added a review section.
  • RC is pushing 3800, so I'll be on that for a while today. Kasey 10:47, 28 April 2008 (PDT)
  • 28th April: Today Asad and I paired over RC, and had great dicussion about intersesting happening/things and Rollback many edits. We also had some discussion on whether we follow some methodology while working on RC or not. - Shahzad (talk)
  • Would like everyone to work on prioritizing CommunityTasks - it hasn't been touched for a week. :-( ~~ MarkDilley
  • Found this edit to our Values page, how are these slipping through? ~~ MarkDilley
  • Found these missed unconstructive edits, ouch ~~ MarkDilley 19:06, 14 April 2008 (PDT)
  • Ive gone through a whole bunch of templates and updated them with our branding. Granted not all of them are used, still, if any of them have been added in the past on domain pages, they should now appear consistent with the new skin. --Sa'ad talkemailchat 06:34, 14 April 2008 (PDT)
  • I'm excited about welcome messages going out as new people create accounts on AboutUs. I hope this helps more people feel comfortable diving into wiki by giving them someone to contact with questions as well as links to help pages. Kristina .talk. .chat. 15:56, 11 April 2008 (PDT)
  • I've put Template:InfluenceUsDown on a few of our help pages on functions that I know are currently down so that people aren't as confused when they try to do some of these things. Feel free to add to others that you notice or take them down as they start to work. Kristina Weis 18:13, 21 March 2008 (PDT)
  • I was curious what everyone thought about where to place templates such as no website and undelete given the new layout of domain pages. My inclination is to place undelete and no bot ones above the domain box and the rest below, but I'm not certain. Kristina .talk. .chat. 17:55, 21 March 2008 (PDT)
    • I suggest adding the templates above domain pages and having all templates use AU corner code for consistency. If that resonates, with all, lets do it. ~~ Saad
  • Here's someone removing a review that I don't think we should have allowed on teh site to begin with. [1] -- TedErnst (talk)
  • Found someone being spammy to the site, [2] - please keep an eye out for these types of edits. ~~ MarkDilley
  • since an AboutUs Page contains more than just wiki after the CompostUs, I have moved WikiPage to WikiSection. There were a few pages redirecting to WikiPage. Some of them have been redirected to Wiki Section and others to AboutUs Page. Please take a look at both these pages. Feel free to edit/change/revert. Asad | *~talk~* 03:02, 18 March 2008 (PDT)
  • 13 Mar 2008 - We need to shift gear towards Moving to Real People as CompostUs has a much more visible element of human involvement (InfluenceUs messages (with pictures), claims, etc). Lets identify areas which need improvement (in site messaging, in our working, and other) where we can push this concept. Brain storm here. Feel free to jump in and contribute to this upcoming task. --Sa'ad talk|email|chat 06:51, 13 March 2008 (PDT)
  • 10 Mar 2008 - Here's someone that's been making terrible edits going back more than 6 months. Special:Contributions/Rachelmiao One example from a week ago. another from September - this person has been moving pages and turning them into pages for different domains. How did we miss this? TedErnst (talk)
    • Ugh, that's depressing on our end. The person hasn't been banned; are we waiting for something on this? Kasey 12:43, 10 March 2008 (PDT)
      • I don't see any reason to ban. These are well-meaning edits, by my reading. They're just bad. This person needs to learn that it's easy to create a new page, and much better to do that than to hijack an existing page. I think it's just a mistake. I'm much more concerned about how we've missed these pages over and over. TedErnst (talk) 22:31, 10 March 2008 (PDT)
  • 05 Mar 2008 - I have noticed lately that we have been receiving a higher number of spam-y emails that don't appear to be for us, and I've been trying a few things. On blatantly spam ones (one jarbly sentence with link) I've been adding Template:PossibleSpamSite to their domain page and Influence Us comments for multiple offenders (example: GeriFueA.com). For the longer somewhat spam-y ones I've been sending a brief reply saying "Hey, this is AboutUs.org... would you like to edit your domain page... watch our intro video" and I just noticed today that someone took me up on this and went on to edit the squa.re page minutes after my reply. Kristina .talk. .chat.
  • 04 Mar 2008 - I added some text to MediaWiki:Difference. ~~ MarkDilley
  • 01 Mar 2008 - Mark, I know the video inside the DailyBuzzWikiBox has been bothering you, and you removed the videos. My take on it is that the DailyBuzz is where many people view this type of thing (not the WikiBox), and that folks won't be nearly as likely to see the video if they have to click the link to get to it. So, I've tried to make a newly sized/shaped WikiBox that would allow for video. What do you think? Template:DailyBuzzWikiBox TedErnst (talk)
  • 29 Feb 2008 - Does anybody have an idea why Category:FeatureMeNew doesn't show Abcde.com even though this category is there on this page? Also, this doesn't show the Abcde.com even if the page includes this template. Is this a bug? Asad | *~talk~* 04:42, 29 February 2008 (PST)
    • We'll tackle this bug on Monday, if someone from portland dev group doesn't fix it before.--Ali Aslam 05:09, 29 February 2008 (PST)
  • 26 Feb 08 - how did this one get patrolled? This is an extremely important page for us. the video has been seen 25,000 times in the month we've had it up! [3]
  • 24 Feb 2008 - Ouch added as an active member and not welcomed! ~~ MarkDilley
    • Mark, I'm not quite sure why this is ouch. Is it ouch because we need to change the way we do RC to make sure all logged in folks we see there have been welcomed? Is it ouch because the fact that someone tagged himself active member should have been noticed in RC and something done about it? What should have been done? Does the fact that he tagged himself as active member mean that the person doing RC should have done something different than normal, which is to say, made sure the person has been welcomed? Just trying to see your vision for how this can be different next time. TedErnst (talk)
      • It seems to me that one of our main goals is to engage people, when that doesn't happen with someone who clearly is asking for that engagement, it causes me to think about how we can do better. ~~ MarkDilley
  • 20 Feb 2008 - I broke up FeatureMePotentials:UnderDiscussion into five pages. This benefits our members because these pages now load very fast. It benefits us because now you can put the letter page you're watching on you watchlist and when anyone adds a page to your list, you'll be notified. I did add some pages today, so be sure to make sure they're being watched and nurtured. TedErnst (talk)
  • 18 Feb 2008 - Template:Undelete looks great now, but has a problem covering up part of the domain box on many of the pages it's on. Any ideas/help beyond moving it to the top of the page? Kristina .talk. .chat.
  • 16 Feb 2008 - Maybe this phrase is good for welcoming? "we have a page for your website" User talk:ReggieS -- TedErnst (talk)
  • 15 Feb 2008 - just changed the text on pages that are yet to be created: new edit boxes. ~~ MarkDilley
  • 14 Feb 2008 - CompostUsTesting is a task that we need to think about. What are all the daily things we do as community staff that we want in the new system? ~~ MarkDilley
  • 13 Feb 08 - Asad (not sure if others as well) worked on the Feature process using the AddThisHere feature, so nominating can be much easier. It'll be even better tomorrow! Yay! We also have some great discussion going on there about how to improve the process. Join in! TedErnst (talk)
  • 13 February 2008 - Worked on FeatureMePotentials list A-E, moved lots of 'em to last chance. --Sa'ad : msg me : email :
  • 13 February 2008 - On one of the personal pages, I noticed today that adsense was not working despite the fact that there was Category:WhiteList on it. It turned out that it was because this category was in one of the templates and we didn't have the functionality mark as okay for all audiences any page that has a template on it or has a page that is transcluded on it that contains this category to be marked as Okay for all Audiences. We have this functionality now but the question is, do we want to have this category on all personal pages? Thoughts? Asad | *~talk~*
    • I think, no. Personal pages that trip the filter will get the non-adsense ads, which is okay. If we notice and want to manually whitelist, that seems fine. Is there another side to this? TedErnst (talk)
  • 11 February 2008 - I intend to DailyBuzz this, and link to it from the domain pages mentioned, but don't have time at the moment. I'll still do it later if no one gets to it first: http://paulfwalsh.com/more-noise-being-added-by-the-bwdma/ TedErnst (talk)
  • 10 February 2008 - moved this discussion from InterestingHappenings to here.
    • Domain names not seems to be Adult BookFinders.com but it had adult information on its AboutUs Page
    • Not sure what to do with VertexResourcing.com
      • Not sure what you're referring to. Say more?
      • What would you suggest to do with it?
        • My suggested Edit, because I think These Domains (vertexresourcing.c0.uk, vertexresourcing.c0m, vertexresourcing.comm, vertexresourcing.coom) doesn't make any sense. I would be more happy if some body make it more constructive.
        • looks like there are too many categories and RelatedDomains

  • I love the way Tak made ContentStaff so transparent! What can we do for CommunityStaff? ~~ MarkDilley
  • Ted - could you explain why you are playing with the test idea of redirect to No Bot Policy? ~~ MarkDilley
    • Yes, we have various levels of people being okay with us displaying there information here. Some people are fine with our bot scrape. Others prefer to remove their personal phone number (they don't care about the history). Others also want the history removed. Others want all bot-generated content removed. Others are still not satisfied with that, so changing the page into a redirect to NoBotPolicy makes it so that from one point of view, they don't even have a page on AboutUs at all. And yet this still allows the community to go back and change the redirect into a real page again at some point in the future, intentionally, be a human being. Does this answer the question? TedErnst (talk)
  • So we (I) have put WikiBoxes on all new folks PersonalPages for this months experiment. The idea is that we have asked people to Upload their image and take the WikiTour - now what? Letting them know there is community here and that they can learn from is a cool idea to me. This means that we need to tweak the box for CommunityNews aka InterestingHappenings to make it better and we need to change up our welcoming message a little. What do you think? ~~ MarkDilley

25-December-2007

  • Yes! in reply to KristinaWeis's email - "I was thinking in light of the new core customer stuff that TheWikiWay:WhatIsAboutUs might be a good page to tweak and get that out there for new (folks). Thoughts?" ( also tweaked the MissionStatement. MarkDilley
  • I did some tweaking of the titles and formatting and links, with Saad's help. TedErnst (talk)
  • Nice! :-) Obed Suhail
  • I like this a lot! Even before community members start using this for communication, we staff can use it to show an example of how it can work! ;-) ~~ MarkDilley

24-December-2007

  • This box has been added to the personal pages of each community staffmember using {{CommunityStaffWorkingInPublic}}. This is an experiment. What do you think? Feel free to move the box and comment back here. TedErnst (talk)
    • I love it! I think this box can be used to great effect for enhancing communication between the community members. :-) Asad | *~talk~* 09:42, 24 December 2007 (PST)
  • This box is inspired by the recent work on News.
