The great thing is, they will always be able to move their phone service at anytime, and access it from anywhere in the world. 5PCom works equally well,if not better, than any traditional phone line and you have the option to keep your existing phone number, so the switch to 5PCom VoIP is easy, seamless, and hassel free.

Less expensive. Higher quality. More convenient. Portable to anyplace in the world where broadband internet access exists. Not to mention, there are no hidden taxes, fees, tolls, or other deceiving and/or confusing costs, like the ones you are used to seeing on your old fashioned phone bill. It isn't surprising many industry analysts believe that soon, traditional POTS or PSTN phone service will be a thing of the past. A dinosaur. An anachronism (you get the point...)

5 Point Communications™ is headquartered in the heart of San Diego's technology district; Sorrento Valley, California. Our infrastructure and network of technology partners spans the continental U.S. and Canada. When you sign up at 5PCom, you are making the choice to join an industry leader in VoIP and Internet Telephony. You will receive best-in-breed quality and customer service, built on a cutting edge technological backbone - not on the back of a dinosaur.

VoIP Service

How VoIP Works

This diagram serves as an excellent illustration of how VoIP service works. This applies to our customers as well as VoIP users in general; The concept and components are generally the same for all providers.

How VoIP Works

Very simply, VoIP requires 1) a Broadband internet connection via Cable or DSL and 2) a piece of hardware that allows the user to send and receive calls over the internet. For most people, this hardware will take the form of an ATA (Analog Telephone Adapter) commonly shortened to simply "the adapter". The adapters offered to 5PCom customers are very small, lightweight, and easy to use. They are not much larger than a business card carrying case (don't let the picture in the diagram above fool you - the adapter shown is not "to scale" and is actually quite small!)

Other options for using VoIP would include using a VoIP phone that is SIP compatable. SIP is an application layer control protocol commonly used in IP telephony, and it stands for "Session Initiated Protocol". Yet another option would be to use a "Softphone" solution, which is a software interface which allows you to use a desktop or laptop PC as a telephone. In this case, the PC must be accompanied by a head set, microphone, and/or a VoIP phone. For all of these options (except when using a 5PCom adapter) the MAC address of the hardware being used will be required during the sign-up process, prior to activation of service. MAC stands for Media Access Control, and represents a unique hardware address, and is used in various networking applications including VoIP.

VoIP | Savings and Benefits

The following three examples help to illustrate the versatility, portability, and cost savings that can be experienced with 5PCom's VoIP service:

EXAMPLE 1 Let's say you live in Los Angeles but you are traveling to London. Simply bring the 5 Point Communications™ adapter along, plug it into your hotel's high speed Internet line and into your phone there. You will instantly get a dialtone. You can call anyone in Los Angeles. Anyone can reach you at your (212) phone number. These calls are considered 'local' and there are no long distance charges.

EXAMPLE 2 Let's say you live in New York but your parents live in Shanghai. Sign your parents up on 5 Point Communications™ and send our adapter to them in Shanghai. They simply plug in their phone to our adapter and their high speed Internet line. You (or anyone in New York) can call them at their (718) number - free of charge. They can call you (or anyone else in New York) - also free of charge.

EXAMPLE 3 Let's say that you rent or have to move regularly. Simply bring our adapter with you, plug it into the high speed Internet line at your new location and you will receive a dial tone immediately. Anyone who calls you at your old number will get through to you at your new location. You do not need to configure anything. There is no need for any technician visits. There are no move fees.

Pricing

5PCom offers Residential VoIP and Small Business Voip solutions, with pricing that is among the lowest available. Residential service starts out at $14.99 and Unlimited is offered at $19.99 with a one-year committment, with no start-up fee. The most well known service provider currently does not offer pricing this low, and they do require a service activation fee.

Small Business VoIP starts at $39.99 for 1500 minutes, and Business Unlimited is just 49.99 for 2x lines, with free calling to major locations in Europe and Puerto Rico.

IMPORTANT The thing to remember about VoIP that truly distinguishes it from traditional calling solutions is this: There are no hidden fees, taxes, toll charges, or long distance charges (for nationwide calls or destinations covered by your plan.) Calling to worldwide locations not included in your plan will be billed as long distance charges (unless of course you are calling your parents in Shanghai who are also 5PCom customers, as in the example above) but at a much lower cost than traditional phone services. Our VoIP long distance rates can be seen here.
