User talk:Wikiman232

Hey welcome to AboutUs! Nice to have you here. Our stats are a bit broken, we don't really know why... Let me know if you have any questions. Best, MarkDilley

Also, you can use instructions at FixName for SubLyMonal.org. Best, MarkDilley
Hey! Looks like you are doing some "damage" on trying to categorize the shock sites. If the thumbnails are explicit, please remove them. I also added a category to your user page. Let me know your thoughts. Best, MarkDilley
Unfortunately, our categories are not in the best shape. We do not have an easy way to merge two categories, as you pointed out with the pluralization. So, right now, it is kinda best to do what you have been doing, plural and singular. Best, MarkDilley

Hello, the www. attachment is a problem that we are working on. We are trying to find the canonical name on look up and direct to what is native to the site. However, currently the page and thumbnail redirect to www. - we standardized it because folks were saying that it didn't add www and that was more standard. Hopefully this will change soon. Any thoughts? Best, MarkDilley

Help!

Hey, I would love it if you would come to the AdultContentPolicy page and participate in defining the direction for our wiki site, after all ItsYourWiki. If you would like to participate, go here and add your name like {{NotYet|need to look at this more}}. Please let me know if you have any questions... I am really interested in what you think about this, the issue and the way we are deciding it. :-) Best, MarkDilley

Test edits

Please remember that test edits go in the Sandbox, thanks :-) Nathan (talk) / 03:48, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

robots.txt

Please don't attempt to create privileged files like aboutus.org/robots.txt, Robots-txt, User:Wikiman232/Robots.txt, admin.aboutus.org, etc. We do have a robots.txt but it's not editable by the system (nor should it be) and no users are allowed to edit or override it (nor should they be). Can I ask exactly what you're trying to do? If you're trying to test the wiki, please do so in the Sandbox. Nathan (talk) / 19:13, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, first off, please no personal attacks. Second, what are you trying to do with those pages... just trying to understand your thought process on it. MarkDilley

Agreed. robots.txt is not a webpage. It is a text file that website administrators use to denote if robots/webcrawlers are allowed on the site. This can even go so far as to specify: which pages are allowed and aren't, which bots are allowed and aren't. In a wiki-type environment, this page cannot and should not be edited or overrided by the user and is only directly editable by developers. robots.txt may look like it's a part of the wiki, but it isn't. It resides in the same directory as all of the other system files for the MediaWiki installation (which is the wiki engine that AboutUs is using). See Wikipedia's entry for robots.txt. Nathan (talk) / 20:19, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, the Wikipedia link does redirect. I'm well aware of this. AboutUs has clear policies on personal attacks. Please stop making these personal attacks on my talk page; after all, I am not attacking you. Most wikis wouldn't allow this, neither do we. Personal attacks are neither productive nor constructive. Comment on the comment/action of a contributor, not on the person. If you find that you just cannot be civil, take a break for a while, then come back to the keyboard. I would like to stress that we are not Wikipedia and we have zero tolerance against personal attacks, no matter who makes them. Nathan (talk) / 01:01, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

I would like to start a dialogue with you on AboutUs and who and what we are if you're willing to drop the personal attacks. Please stop repeatedly posting the same comment over and over. As it's my talk page, I have the right to revert you if I have my reasons. Please respect them. Unless you'd like to start a constructive conversation about AboutUs, I respectfully request that you stop posting on my talk page immediately. Your repeated personal attacks are not wanted nor are called for. Nathan (talk) / 01:17, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Edit summaries

I notice you're doing some good work. I'd like to ask you to please leave meaningful edit summaries so as to indicate exactly what you did. Please see my contributions for examples. Please also see What is an edit summary?. Please realise also that using all-caps in any part of your edit summary is generally perceived as shouting (see Netiquette). You could be a positive and constructive contributor here if you'd just stop using nonsense edit summaries. I don't see you doing that on Wikipedia, just here. Do you have something against AboutUs? Would you like to discuss it? I remind you again that when responding to me, please do so in a constructive way. Thanks, Nathan (talk) / 16:41, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for contributing in a constructive way and I hope you continue to do so. Regards, Nathan (talk) / 01:32, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

WikiAnatomy tours

Hello, I just wanted to pop in and say hello to show you something that I'm excited about. It's a brand new tour for learning about wiki and AboutUs.org with more advanced tour tracks in the works at WikiAnatomy. You can check it out at TheWikiWay:WhatIsWiki. Have a great day.

I know I've only messaged you once previously, but could I make your list? ;)
KristinaWeis | **talk** 15:24, 5 June 2007 (PDT)
Whoa, it looks like this is getting out of hand. I thought you were joking, but either way I AssumeGoodFaith with both you and Nathan - you both make more constructive edits than I do most of the time. Have a great day ;)

Vandalism

Do not vandalise my page again. Just because I'm watching users doesn't mean I'm a "stalker" and in fact, that's offensive. I comment here to try to help you out, not because I have some psychotic fascination with you. Please don't do it again. Nathan (talk) / 22:42, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

I have asked you not to vandalise my page and you continue to do it despite my warning. It is against AboutUs policy to vandalise pages, especially after you've been asked not to do it. If you continue, you will be blocked. Cease and desist immediately. I have asked you politely to stop. Either show a little respect for other users around here or I can ask the admins to deal with this. Nathan (talk) / 00:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

If this is some personal vendetta against me, we can talk about this. Regardless, you need to respect other users around here. AboutUs is not your own personal playground. Go to Wikipedia for that stuff, they'll love you. Nathan (talk) / 00:13, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Help with Big Decision ... AboutUsLogo!

Hello Wikiman232, there is a movement afoot to create a new version of the AboutUsLogo. I'd love it if you would come to AboutUsLogo and participate in creating this important decision about the look/feel for our site, after all ItsYourWiki! Warm Regards, Brandon CS Sanders Caricature.jpg Brandon CS Sanders

ps. I'm curious about your interactions with Mark and Nathan. They seem to provoke an allergic reaction in you, and you in them.

Sorry & a question

I apologise for this edit summary which could be read as a personal attack; it was not meant as such. I think adding extraneous information about a ParkingLot is really unnecessary, but that is a comment only on the edits. We really don't need descriptions of what you see when you look at a ParkingLot, nor do we need the images and source HTML. I think that's a bit much. After all, if people wanted to see the webpage, they'd go there themselves - can you see where I'm coming from? Could you help me to understand why you think all this extra information is necessary on a DomainPage? Please realise, I'm not your enemy (so I really don't appreciate any edit anywhere which portrays me as such), I'm asking these questions to be constructive. How do those edits constructively help AboutUs? Nathan (talk) / 19:24, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

Warning

If you continue to vandalize other user's pages, you will be blocked. DrewMyers | talk 12:40, 9 June 2007 (PDT)

If I wanted a copy of the Crazy.com page put in my userspace, I'd put it there myself. Nathan (talk) / 21:31, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

AdultContent

Have you seen our AdultContentPolicy? I think it's best to keep these images out until we have our splash page feature up for pages flagged as AdultContent. I personally don't want to see that image and I certainly wouldn't want someone under 18 to. KristinaWeis

What do you mean?
That's a good point, and something that I have thought about. The splash page should solve that problem thankfully, I'm excited for the dev guys to unvail it.
Haha, that template cracks me up. May be a little offensive to some, but amusing to say the least. KristinaWeis

WhoWeAre

Hi,

I would just like to tell you about the WhoWeAre consensus poll. This is a unique opportunity for all community members to discuss and decide what AboutUs is and more importantly what role we, the community, plays.

The discussion is still in its initial stages and there are a handful of people involved in this discussion. But it's not enough. Every one of us has a stake in this process. We all need to air our views. Our opinions will make a difference. We cannot and must not let a handful of people define us. We must speak out and contribute because we are being defined and I for one would like to have a say in how I am being defined.

Please contribute to this really important project. Without you it cannot successfully create a good definition of who we are. Tanwir Shah

Ugly

Haha...nice template, you're a nut! ;) - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

AnnualCommunityReview

Hi, I would like to invite you to participate in some conference calls we are having. I think it would be good to hear your views on the site. ~~ MarkDilley

Crazy Categories

I definitely know what you mean, and it's something that is being worked on. Check out CategoriesToCull - it should be fixed/implemented soon and was something that was waiting on our MediaWiki upgrade I believe. KristinaWeis 18:25, 21 August 2007 (PDT)

NewSkin Beta Preview

Hello Mitch!

We've noticed your contributions and are glad to be on the AboutUs team with you! As an ActiveMember your energy and ideas determine our future direction. One way that ActiveMembers stay "in the loop" is to participate in the beta previews of large new changes to the site before they are generally released.

Today we're starting a limited beta preview of an earthy NewSkin intended to reflect the alive and growing AboutUs community. The NewSkin is designed to feel wholesome and connected with the real world. This choice was made to reassure the many folks who feel that the internet is a "scary place" where mean people hide behind fake identities and shout insults at each other. We hope that the NewSkin evokes our values in a way that helps visitors and members alike feel grounded in true community.

We'd love your help putting the NewSkin through its paces! To give it a whirl you'll need to be logged in. Once you are logged in, go to "my preferences" | "skin" and select "design". Don't forget to then click the "save" button! You can always go back to the current skin by selecting "aboutus" via the same steps.

Your feedback on the new look for aboutus will help ensure that it has a maximally positive impact when we roll it out. Thanks for being a valuable member of the community, we look forward to your feedback on the NewSkin page!

Warm Regards,
the DevelopmentTeam

why?

Why did you forward AboutUs.org to Hell.com? Please don't do stuff like that. TedErnst | talk 14:03, 2 October 2007 (PDT)

There are plenty of constructive ways to make your feelings know. Please use one or more of those. Unconstructive edits are not welcome. TedErnst | talk 22:21, 5 October 2007 (PDT)

CamelCase

By the way, while it's fine for you to rename normal pages, if you feel the need to, please do not rename categories without changing all the pages in the category. Category forwarding doesn't really work well. And by the way, some of us here prefer CamelCase, so please do not be rude in your edit summaries when renaming a page. TedErnst | talk 22:23, 5 October 2007 (PDT)

Blocked

You have been blocked for one month as a result of your offensive behaviour and trolling, specifically this edit (coupled with prior actions). TedErnst (talk) 09:30, 20 November 2007 (PST)
