NewSkin Beta Preview

Hello Alex!

We've noticed your contributions and are glad to be on the AboutUs team with you! As an ActiveMember your energy and ideas determine our future direction. One way that ActiveMembers stay "in the loop" is to participate in the beta previews of large new changes to the site before they are generally released.

Today we're starting a limited beta preview of an earthy NewSkin intended to reflect the alive and growing AboutUs community. The NewSkin is designed to feel wholesome and connected with the real world. This choice was made to reassure the many folks who feel that the internet is a "scary place" where mean people hide behind fake identities and shout insults at each other. We hope that the NewSkin evokes our values in a way that helps visitors and members alike feel grounded in true community.

We'd love your help putting the NewSkin through its paces! To give it a whirl you'll need to be logged in. Once you are logged in, go to "my preferences" | "skin" and select "design". Don't forget to then click the "save" button! You can always go back to the current skin by selecting "aboutus" via the same steps.

Your feedback on the new look for aboutus will help ensure that it has a maximally positive impact when we roll it out. Thanks for being a valuable member of the community, we look forward to your feedback on the NewSkin page!

Hello Colibri! Welcome to AboutUs.

Looks like you've done some really great work on AboutUs. Good work improving upon the wiki page for EnergyPlanet.info and Alternative-Energy-News.info. I'm a geography major myself, which is practically environmental studies, especially since I am in Portland, Oregon. I would recommend that you check out Grist.org, it has some really amazing feature pieces related to the environment and everything that relates to it, such as politics.

Feel free to continue exploring the wonderful world of wiki. I wonder if you might want to add a little information about yourself on your user page? (You can see an example of this by clicking my name below.) Please don't hesitate to let me know if you'd like some assistance in accomplishing your goals on AboutUs and if you want some help or information I've found this to be a nice resource.

The start of these member profile templates

Hey Colibri, couple of things:

1. This is day two of this new idea. We have been thinking about how to implement and we think we are on the right track, however rough it looks. :-)
2. You don't have to be in the NetworkWeaver template. That is just the only one we have developed now. If you like it great! I want to develope one for union organizers as well, so if you want to think about developing another one, that is cool too.
3. I personally prefer the full names of people that care about you know. We are big into transparency here, we think it will help things move forward for the better, please consider a name space for your self like FirstNameLastName and we can link to your talk page here. No mandate :-) just consider :-)

Could you add your postal code? / Few edits to the badges in your profile

We have been attempting to standardize such things as the names and order of city, state/province, country, region etc. I have made a few edits to the badges in your profile. Hope they're ok -- if not, obviously, feel free to change them back or talk with me about them.

Also, could you please add your postal code as a badge before your city, or send it to me so that I can do so?

EnergyPlanet.info feature request.

Alex,

I'm just now realizing that you put up a FeatureMe nomination on EnergyPlanet.info over a month ago asking for help/thoughts on how to build out a good WikiPage. The way it was done, I thought someone else was working with you, but realize now that wasn't the case. I'd like to apologize that it's taken this long.

Anyway, I've left a note on the EnergyPlanet.info/FeatureDiscussion with thoughts and suggestions. The gist of it:

I think this is an awesome opportunity for a page to discuss why use alternative energy, in addition to a list of some of the top categories and areas that EnergyPlanet.info lists. Beyond that, this WikiPage could list maybe the genesis of the idea, how sites are added to the directory, a list of some of the topics and ideas explored in the blog and reviews.

With a little work, this can be an awesome page and we totally should feature it when it's ready. Please feel free to let me know if you have any questions or problems. -- TakKendrick

I would just like to tell you about the WhoWeAre consensus poll. This is a unique opportunity for all community members to discuss and decide what AboutUs is and more importantly what role we, the community, plays.

The discussion is still in its initial stages and there are a handful of people involved in this discussion. But it's not enough. Every one of us has a stake in this process. We all need to air our views. Our opinions will make a difference. We cannot and must not let a handful of people define us. We must speak out and contribute because we are being defined and I for one would like to have a say in how I am being defined.

Please contribute to this really important project. Without you it cannot successfully create a good definition of who we are. Tanwir Shah
