Memoirjournal.com is the domain of Memoir Journal, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that publishes the literary magazine Memoir (and).

"Memoir (and) is an up-and-coming lit mag formed with the intention of exploring and supporting memoir as “the” genre of the 21st century. It is available in print in over 600 bookstores in the U.S. and Canada, including Borders, Barnes and Noble, Waldenbooks, Indigo, Hastings and many independent bookstores. Memoir (and) is published by Memoir Journal, a nonprofit based in Sausalito, California. Most of each issue’s content can be read on our website at www.memoirjournal.com
The editors strive with each issue to include a selection of:
• prose
• poetry
• graphic memoirs
• epistolary memoirs
• narrative photography
• lies and more . . .
We particularly invite submissions that push the boundaries of traditional form and content in the exploration of the representation of self. No submission is too unusual—postmodern, modern or hypermodern—for us to consider. We look forward to the ways you will surprise, delight and perhaps shock us. We also just love a memoir well-told."
Additional Information
Memoir (and) holds a biannual contest in which all submitters are automatically entered; each winner of the Grand Prize for Memoir in Prose or Poetry receives a $500 Prize and publication in the upcoming issue. Winner of the Second Prize receives $250 and publication, and Third Prize receives $100 and publication. Winner of the Prize for Graphic Memoir receives $100 and publication. No entry fee is charged for any contest.
The reading period for our Fall+Winter 2009 runs from November 1, 2008 to February 15, 2009. We prefer to receive electronic submissions online via our Submissions Manager tool.
