- Bernie didn’t have many friends. To be perfectly honest, he didn’t have any friends at all. You see, to know Bernie was to dislike him. He was rude, mean and seemed to go out of his way to be as obnoxious as possible. He lied for the slightest reason and if he could cheat you, well, Bernie considered that a successful day. He was a bitter, miserable man that people avoided in every way possible. He ran a small second hand store on 35th Avenue. A grungy, little grime covered hole in the wall which, in many ways, was very much like Bernie, himself. He spent everyday, except Sunday at the store, snarling at the world and the people in it, seemingly destined to forever remain the evil tempered little man that no one wanted to be around. One day blended into the next and then the one after that and each was pretty much the same.
