JAFFA INSTITUTE

Description

The Institute for the Advancement of Education in Jaffa ("The Jaffa Institute") is a private, non-profit, multi-service social agency assisting approximately 4,000 severely disadvantaged children and their families, regardless of religious or ethnic background. The Institute's mission is to provide educational, recreational and social enrichment programs that endow children with a sense of self worth, while furnishing them with the skills needed to succeed in contemporary Israeli society. Since its inception in 1982, the Jaffa Institute was committed to creating the opportunities needed to enable each child to reach his or her full academic and social potential.

Now in its third decade of service, the Jaffa Institute is staffed by over 130 highly trained professionals, complemented by an additional 40 dedicated volunteers, including young adults who previously participated in the Institute's programs. The Institute provides critically needed educational, recreational and social-support services at six program sites in Jaffa and Bat Yam, at an extension branch in Jerusalem, and at a residential educational center at Bet Shemesh.

The Jaffa Institute has received official recognition from the various sectors of the government of Israel for its twenty years of community service, and was awarded the President's Prize for Most Outstanding Voluntary Organization of 2001. The Institute's residential educational center in Bet Shemesh has been awarded the President's Prize for excellence in Education in 1995 and 2004. As it embarks on its next twenty years of service to the people of Israel, the Jaffa Institute looks forward to guiding additional thousands of needy children toward a better, brighter future.
