Aspens, the most widely distributed trees in North America, are one of the few deciduous trees hearty enough to survive in a harsh mountain environment. When fires, floods, or logging destroy an area, they are the first to grow back because of their strong almost invincible underground root system. Aspen groves not only provide beautiful scenery, but also a rich habitat for wildlife.
