Title

Aquila Polonica Publishing | Publishing the Polish experience of World War II

Description

Aquila Polonica: Dedicated to publishing, in English, the Polish experience of the struggle against the double enemy—Nazi Germany and Stalinist USSR—in the Second World War; with first-hand accounts, memoirs, poetry, literature, photographs, artworks and historical studies.

World War II began in September 1939 with the Nazi German invasion of Poland, the first Allied nation to challenge the military might of the Nazi war machine.

Abandoned to Soviet Russia by the Allied powers in 1945, Poland disappeared from Western awareness when the Iron Curtain descended across Europe. The incredible story of Poland's heroic role in the War was mostly lost to the West. Some memoirs and histories were published in English by émigré Poles in the years following the War, but have been out-of-print for decades. others have been available only in Polish. Aquila Polonica's publishing mission is to tell this story…a story that leaps from shining heights of the human spirit to blackest depths of a depraved hell... a story of ordinary people caught in extraordinary times, rising against all odds to combat evil unimaginable... a story of the tenacious and enduring soul of a nation – where faith, freedom, honour and love of country burned steadfast and undiminished over 50 hard years – and finally, with the overthrow of Communist rule in 1989, emerged victorious!
