The American Academy of Healing Arts was organized in December 1996. The school was approved and licensed by the Arkansas State Board of Massage Therapy in January 1997. In 2005, the school changed its name to the American University of Healing Arts. AUOHA is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association Council of Schools and active participant in health research fund raising events for state and national organizations.
