Excerpted from the website:
- A: On most airlines, seats in exit rows usually have more legroom than other seats. Exit-row legroom is especially great on some wide-body planes, where the seats are immediately behind a door and thus have several feet of extra room. You can ask for an exit-row seat assignment, but if you do, be prepared to help open the exit door in an emergency. An even better idea is to fly American Airlines, which recently extended legroom throughout the coach sections of its aircraft by three or four inches. And if you have enough frequent flyer miles on an airline you can use them to upgrade to business or first class, where you will find roomier seats.
