- In elementary school I participated in a national futurology contest and won an award for doing a project on domed undersea cities. I thought that was the (very near) future back then (early 1970s). I had glass travel tubes connecting all the buildings inside these wild, sprawling megapolises all over the floors of the oceans. I guess I was overly ambitious, but this is the kind fo thing I truly thought we would be doing prior to 2000.
