Jeanie Pyun, Editor
Sprig brings out the start-up, do-everything bug in Jeanie: She writes, edits, interviews people, curates products, comes up with concepts for videos and everything else, moves furniture on shoots, and tries not to forget what she said two seconds ago as the boss. Stylewise, she likes stuff that's "interesting — friends go into my closet and will hold up a piece and say, 'I don't know if this is a scarf, a skirt or a shirt, but I like it!' I tend to go for slightly avant-garde designers who do offbeat or surprising construction — ruching, asymmetry." It's likely Jeanie gets her love of fashion (though not her specific style) from her mom, whom she describes as "a glamour puss — the woman you see raking leaves off the front path in high-heel pink maribou mules." Her love of the planet she gets from her dad. "He was the bearded writer-professor with an organic garden and a thing for alternative health — there were phases when white bread, rice and sugar were verboten. This was weird for Long Island then, so I really ran from that," Jeanie says. And that explains why she spent her entire professional career working at glossies like Vanity Fair, Details, Mademoiselle, and In Style Home (where she was a co-founding editor); she's written for Vogue, The New York Times Book Review and Salon. She also was the editor of Organic Style, for which she appeared on Good Morning America, The View and The Early Show, and about which she says, "was a return to the values of my childhood and my college years." And Sprig, one could surmise, is the perfect place for Jeanie to end up, as it blends her love for shopping (home! fashion! beauty!) with her eco-awareness.
