Responsible for gathering story info from various news sources and determining the newsworthiness. Making decisions on what stories to cover and assigning/dispatching the crews. Keep news staff apprised of breaking news and changes in assignments. Make beat check calls to law enforcement and other governmental agencies. Communicate with affiliates to ensure continuity in coverage. 1 year exp in TV news, including assignment desk exp. Must be well organized and able to manage multiple projects. Must demonstrate outstanding news judgment and good news writing skills. Must be able to deal effectively with people. Must be able to work well in a fast paced environment. Create promotional materials Create ratings estimates for sales’ master planners and avails system. Create qualitative profiles, positioning pieces and one sheets. Help maintain research systems (TVSCan, Qualitap, etc.). Access and distribute Nielsen Overnight data daily. Verify programming and update Nielsen with log information. Prepare rating book breakouts. Maintain Market Manager & Monitorscan account assignments. Coordinate all research efforts with national rep firm. Knowledge, experience w/ spreadsheet and presentation software packages (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Must have strong communication skills, written and verbal, as well as good presentation skills, mathematical & analytical aptitude. Knowledge/experience of TV Research/Sales systems (TVScan or BMP).
