Jane was born in 1963 in Stratford on Avon and travelled widely before coming to study and settle in Oxford. She obtained her degree in 1988 in Fine Art and Art History, working mostly in printmaking, bookbinding and paperworks, but never in paint. She began painting in April 1996 and is entirely self-taught.
She is fascinated with the natural world and investigates the ways in which people seek to understand natural phenomenon through mythology, religion and science. Consequently, in selecting subject matter, she is drawn to ancient sites and different cultures from around the world.
"I try to express something about the essence of humanity - the hopes, fears, loves and aspirations that from whatever time & place, make us all the same. Ancient, sacred monuments express a human need to leave a mark on the world and in some way feel in control of it."
