Description

The International Criminal Court Alliance

Our mission is to support research, education and organization concerning the need for, organization and operations of, and the participation of the United States in, a permanent International Criminal Court.

The Rome Treaty adopted in July of 1998 commenced the process to establish a permanent International Criminal Court for war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide. The treaty and work of the post-treaty proceedings are available for the interpretation and application by victims' rights advocates, international legal scholars, international and domestic lawyers, military lawyers and officers, and civilian policy makers, who must now become familiar with this new document and anticipate its present and future effect on their plans and decisions.

The world has recorded too many instances of genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity, when there was no response from the international community. The Nuremberg and Tokyo Tribunals set precedent for these international crimes and the ad hoc Tribunals for the Former Yugoslavia and Rwanda continue to prosecute these crimes. Despite successes in the temporary tribunals, international crimes continue to be committed. The United Nations has acted solely and refused to establish other ad hoc tribunals, despite well documented evidence of many other occurrences of these crimes.
