- President Barack Obama is expected to sign the compromise fiscal stimulus bill on Tuesday, and the debate will continue as to how much of an impact the bill will have on the economy, say the analysts at Global Insight. Our take is that there will be some cumulative impact over time, but it will not be immediate or dramatic. Markets will scrutinize any specific initiatives coming out of this week end’s G7 meeting in Rome. One of the important issues on the agenda will be the IMF’s recent recommendation that the U.S. and European banking systems will need $500 billion of additional capital infusions in 2009. Markets will be looking for guidance from the G7 on where this huge capital injection is going to come from.
