The Cranach Institute - Home

Description

The Cranach Institute is a research and educational arm of Concordia Theological Seminary devoted to working out the implications of the Lutheran doctrine of vocation and engaging contemporary culture with the truths of the Lutheran confessions.

Christian ideas, emerging out of a Biblical World View, can challenge the weakness of secularism and offer constructive alternatives grounded in the truth of God's Word. Most Christian contributions to current debates are coming from a Catholic or Reformed theological perspective. While these are often helpful, the Lutheran tradition - with its doctrine of Two Kingdoms, its distinction between law and Gospel, and its high view of Word and Sacrament - often approaches these issues differently. In the debates about medical ethics, political activism, educational practices, and the like, the Lutheran voice needs to be heard.

The Cranach Institute seeks to be a forum, a think tank, and a catalyst for these ideas. It will help equip Lutherans to participate in these debates, and sponsor scholarship and activities for the service of the church and the culture as a whole.
