The History of Braniff International Airways

Description

The Braniff International Historical Site is the culmination of months of research into the birth, transformation and ultimate demise of Braniff International Airlines. Most of the information found on this site was obtained from well-documented and published sources that can be found in the Bibliography section of this site. Many of the images and periodicals referenced are also part of the Author’s personal Braniff Collection.

T he web site author wishes to thank and acknowledge the assistance of Dr. Larry Sall, Mrs. Mary Caspari and and her associates at the University of Dallas, McDermott Library, History of Aviation Collection’s Braniff Archives. Without acess to their historical archives, this site would not have been possible. Many of the images found on this site have been culled from the Library's extensive collection and used on this site with permission.

The archives were donated with all literary rights to the University of Texas in 1982, as one of the official acts of Braniff International prior to its bankruptcy. Braniff public relations employee Pat Zahrt, supervised the transfer of the documents, most of which had originated in the public relations office, to the History of Aviation Collection. The Braniff Collection is composed of 20 linear feet of documents contained in 48 manuscript boxes. Most of the material is dated from 1928, when Braniff was first incorporated as a company and 1982, its first bankruptcy.
