I have been fascinated by Architeuthis Dux (the Giant Squid) and all its relatives since I saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, many years ago. The Giant Squid is the most elusive sea creature on earth, never having been observed in the wild except when dead or dying. Like many other creatures in the field of cryptozoology, Architeuthis is the victim (or beneficiary) of wild exaggeration and speculation, in addition to more serious study.
