Thanks much for fixing my type on Template:Badge:ImANetworkWeaver! peace, TedErnst

Is it possible to get a box for either a list of quotes from candidates (like the news section) or a section to link to another page with quotes for Portal:2008_Presidential_Election? Right now I have Portal:2008_Presidential_Election/Quotes but that's not for the public (yet). Your thoughts? KristinaWeis | **talk** 16:36, 16 May 2007 (PDT)

How the mission of AboutUs could develop

The principle of AboutUs is to get your website out there. I'm always busy with making our site, HomeHelp4U.net, the easiest to compare quotes for several services in Australia. I do this by thinking about numerous interfaces to get to the point my users want to get to. In my case that is comparing quotes from several companies. In the AboutUs community I would like to see more ways of getting your point across. I already like the featured website possibility. Also we can all learn from each other so whose website concepts work and why. An idea can be AboutUs pages most visted by its users or promote a place to meet other webmasters and discuss stategies and ideas. An other idea is best page layout, etc of the month. These ideas mean lots of exposure.

Also I like to browse the AboutUs site to find new ideas of what I can think about and morph into a way I can use to help my Homehelp4U.net users. I shouldn't be just a directory, it can be a place to get inspired. Sander Snel

Logos

Vinh, I said I was worred that we were getting too close to the BP logo, not "almost there" ;-) MarkDilley

Large Questions

Vinh, after a heckish finals week (and an ugly statistics final) I am starting to get some things (like my life) back. Just wanted to let you know I'm going to be thinking about your "large questions" over the weekend (I'm going fishing). I did leave a big mess-O-thoughts on the logo page for you, but they aren't complete. Bestest regards, Wally Wilson

Vinh, I ended up breaking my only functional wrist (left wrist), so the fishing didn't much turn out. I like to fish small rivers/mountain rivers and creeks. I also like to fish small, mountain lakes (Red Meadow Lake in Montana has native (non-stocked) greyling - Thymallus arcticus). I'm pretty much only a fly-fisherman, and I make my own fly rods and tie my own flies (but I've used a spinning rod or three, too...in saltwater and in fresh water. I've even used my fly rod in saltwater a few times).
I'll take a look around the AboutUs in the coming few days and start pecking out a word or three.
Bestest regards, Wally
Howdy Vinh: I've thought about the idea that a logo should stand on its own and I've come to the conclusion that there are countless logos that could never stand on their own...that is, until they were already associated with the companies in question. The logos for Yahoo, Google, Newsvine (looks like wheat to me), DIGG, Furl, RSS, del.icio.us, the Hartford Insurance "elk," the flags of countless states and countries (you have to know their histories, first), etc...
The leaves logo will grow to be associated with AboutUs in the same manner as innumerable other logos, and the logo has the added advantage of having "AboutUs" as part of its design.
Bestest regards, Wally

Hey Vinh, can you upload the latest version of the logo so I can begin conversations with the NotYet 's - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

URLs

Vinh, nice work on the flier. I am excited when I see people use CamelCase in writing urls on bilboards and other print materials for urls, I think it will be standard in the near future. ~~ MarkDilley

Friday pairing?

Vinh, I'm only in the office for one more day, Friday. Any idea what your day looks like? What's the possibility we could spend 20-30 minutes on the consensus polling tour (on the Portal:ConsensusPolls page)? Obed and I have been working on it, and it really needs some new eyeballs, including aesthetic ones. :-) Let me know? peace, TedErnst

Dev card

  • History to Changes(8) - Here's a prioritized dev card that may be unneeded with the site redesign. I'm not sure if showing the number of changes fits into the new skin, in which case we should remove this card. - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

Discussion about Edit Page

Hi! Vinh,I am Asma (Lahore Office Internee),want to add some of my opinion in your RedesignEditPage work,as Scott must have forward you the 'code' in which some ammendments are done by myself in the 'page resource' as right now i do not have page priveleges so i did some changes according to the 'discussion' of the planning game about the edit page. You can view the out put of the source in your browser.I was interested in doing ammendments in the edit page i.e i joined your group.I hope i can assist you in smaller tasks like these if you like? Pleases do check it although its not perfect but i really like to contribute. Asma Khan

Estimated Time for Site Design Adjustments

Hi Venh, I was working on the page DevelopmentTeamPriorities and looked at your project Site Design Adjustments. Can you add some details the estimated time of this project? Cheers, Arif Iqbal

favicon

Hey Vinh, the favicon seems to be working now. There are a couple adjustments I think could be made. The border looks really rough and jagged, can we smooth that out so it looks like smooth and round? Also, I'm not sure the yellow leaf breaking out works well in that small of a size, it kind of looks messy like accidently drawing over a line with crayons. - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

Edit page

You think we should add an "Upload Image" button on the edit page? I saw this on WikiInvest.com and thought it was a great idea. - Scott Keeler Comment_green.gif

re: Add article to this Category

It's pretty new. I wish we had a blog or page for dev announcements, so we'd know when stuff like this goes live. I don't know how it even works. I look forward to seeing and testing the new skin! Ted Ernst | talk

Need help

Hi Vinh, we need some help from you on making Lasik page for Dallas "more perfect". Could you please have a look? Thanks :-) Asad

AboutUsPeopleCleanup

Hi Vinh, as an effort to minimize the distinction between AboutUsStaff and ActiveMembers, we are replacing the AboutUsStaff/AboutUsEmployees/AboutUsStaffCity categories with AboutUsCity Category. You are welcome to share your ideas/thoughts on AboutUsPeopleCleanup#Discussion page. Best, Asad

Dallas Lasik

Actually we need your help regarding the tables:

  1. Consistent size for the logos
  2. Reducing the empty spaces to make the tables more packed
  3. Improving the general layout of the page

Since the site skin is definitely more important than the Lasik layout, we can probably push it to the next period (September 1-15), if that works for you. Best, Asad

Hey Vinh! Just wanted to say that I love the new skin. I think you did a great job -- the site looks so much better! Take it easy. Blake Hinckley 18:23, 12 September 2007 (PDT)

new domain box diff bug

Not sure what's going on here, but this is the 2nd time I've seen this: http://www.aboutus.org/index.php?title=PatsysSpecialtyShop.com&diff=10388331&oldid=10387821. I'm on Firefox for OSX. Asad sees the same on Firefox for Linux. TedErnst | talk 19:55, 17 September 2007 (PDT)

Vinh, I've also noticed both. The one I was specifically asking about was in the diff view, how the rendered page doesn't look right. It looks like wikitext inside the domain box. I suppose the other one is actually more serious because it impedes patrolling functionality. The one I was asking about is simply cosmetic. TedErnst | talk 20:50, 18 September 2007 (PDT)

I don't see a big use of it myself, it just reminds me of those pages where you hover over a link and to shows you a thumbnail of the page but it makes it twice as hard to click on it. Maybe it would be better to have it for guests that registered users? --Simon | talk 15:57, 2 October 2007 (PDT)

  • In general I like it, I'd just prefer it somewhere else. Or if it was a image you had to click on to have that box come up that would be great as well. --Simon | talk 15:58, 2 October 2007 (PDT)

InfluenceUs project status

Hello Vinh,

Good to know that you would be helping us in this task :) We achieved the functionality to a large extentbut when we tried using Jquery to make the interface better, it starting giving us problems. So we decided to to stop using jquery and write our css. The css seems to work well alone but when we try using it in the Mediawiki, its totally changed and looks very bad. we dont have much expertise with CSS so we may be missing something here. Can you check the latest development push and change this CSS to make the wizard look better. Arif Iqbal

You got it right Vinh. We are loading it in the page content area. We ll try to take as far as we can by the end of this week, lets see where it goes. Arif Iqbal

Branding

Hi Vihn, just wanted to see if I could encourage a change in this badge, PortlandTech MotifSmall.png

if you search for portland tech in google - we are nowhere to be found, however if you search for PortlandTech we are first hit. I think that the badge should match the category and what we want people to google for. My two cents :-) See you soon, MarkDilley

New edit "buttons"

Hey there!

I was wondering if the new edit buttons could have the “cursor: pointer” style applied to them so that they would have a hand cursor. Makes more sense to the user in my opinion.

Hiya. Regarding Opera.

Is there an update on the Opera problems. I forget who but I was told it isn't a major concern right now. Opera is the only browser out of several that has ever produced a problem for me. --Nick([talk]-[HFAD]-[contribs]-[email]) 19:07, 29 December 2007 (PST)

"home" link we talked about

Hey Vinh, just wanted to see about the "home" link next to "edit" or somewhere up there. Good idea? Otherwise, it seems hard to find our homepage. Yes, it's in useful links, but people might not know to click there. I'm thinking about the person that stumbles upon a DomainPage from a Google search or something and then it trying to figure out what AboutUs is. Could we give them a hand? styles question for you

http://www.aboutus.org/SuggestionBox#WikiPages_table_style

(copied from User Talk:JDCohen) Joe, I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for in question you left for TedErnst. There aren't currently any "styles" one can apply to a table to change its appearance, but we can work through a few ideas to create one. Do you have a specific table in mind? --Vinh Nguyen 13:22, 11 January 2008 (PST)
Vinh: Here's what I had in mind. I noticed that the Related Domains sections make a table from the text within the <WikiPages> element. The table has a number of features that I like: (1) it's very simple -- you don't have to bother with or know Wiki or HTML table syntax, (2) the columns are equal height; (3) it's sorted; (4) each line in the source code starts a new line in the table.
But the table also has some features that I personally don't like: (1) borders; (2) bullets; (3) The sort order: (a) I want it to be indifferent to upper vs lower case (for instance I want wired.MD to appear before Zeba (Absorbent Technologies)); (b) sometimes I put in a pipe, and I want to sort on what comes after the pipe, as opposed to the domain name (For instance, I want "RenewableEnergyInfo.org | American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE)" to sort on the organization name, not the domain name. I wouldn't mind sorting manually and having no automatic sort.
So what I wanted the benefits of the <WikiPages> tables, modified by my personal preferences. Maybe there's already an easy way to do this, and I'm just ignorant.

loving the au-corner style

Hey Vinh. Love it! See how we're using it at AboutUs LiveChat? It makes me think that the border on the username box with my talk and my preferences etc should also have the bottom-left right-angle corner, for consistency. Hi Vinh, There are one or two small things that still need to be fixed in the InfluenceUs wizard. First is the InfluenceUs link in the skin which is an eye for now, can we use thumbs up + thumbs down, something like this image. Hey Vinh, saw the site in .i.e. 6 this weekend, looks horrible. Do we have stats on how many people are seeing the site like that? Some particulars. Best, MarkDilley

The alternative to working on making IE6 (which is broken) work, is to have a site notice for IE6 folks that says "Please upgrade to a standards-compliant browser and your experience with AboutUs will be much better" or something. TedErnst (talk) 23:04, 18 February 2008 (PST)
