'''What to do on AboutUs'''

Each person's AboutUs experience is a unique one. There's lots of ways in which people can contribute and utilize the resource the AboutUs community is building. Just reading articles on topics, websites and people you care about is enough, but for those looking to go further, AboutUs offers a number of other opportunities for involvement:

* Edit and augment the information on you and the things you care about.

* Help garden unconstructive activity

* Help build the community

* Read and write reviews and constructive criticism for products and websites.

* Participate in consensus polls and other decision-making processes to improve the AboutUs wiki

Elevating the net's lonely and forgotten "about us" pages into a free community based on TheWikiWay.

AboutUs.org is a wiki full of information about you, your websites and the things you care about – as described by you!

The "about us" information on the internet (and more)

AboutUs hosts communities of organizations and their constituents. We launched a year ago with a focus on those organizations with enough purpose to have a domain name, though we don't consider our site to be just a directory. Instead we are building a resource that merges information with human will, including commercial interests, using the power of wiki. By celebrating the "long-tail" of organizations on the web, AboutUs might be called the Wikipedia of the "not quite as notable," or the Facebook of people working together.

Why come to the site?

Because this really is all about us (you, me, everyone). AboutUs provides a uniquely neutral space to comment and collaborate on the things that you care about. You can find and work with people who share the same interests as you; read and write reviews and constructive criticism about products and websites; share your knowledge with a global audience; participate in consensus polls and other decision-making processes; and learn new things.

About the staff

AboutUs utilizes a core staff that is augmented by the great work of our community members. Past wiki projects started by AboutUs staff include the original wiki, WikiIndex, ICANNwiki, and FortWiki. We're proud of these, but we're even more proud of the common-ground that AboutUs can form between these and every other project, even those that you don't even know you've thought of yet.

Come experience AboutUs for yourself

Great quotes showing that we are not just a directory

  1. I was intimidated as hell the first time I came here. Overwhelmed, in fact. But the folks here made it so easy to ask questions and not feel stupid, where helpful in getting my pages straightened out ... and honored to be asked to come back here and give my two cents on these issues and truly care about what happens to the site.
  2. I think these pages overall- "about us" are not just interesting & fun, but ultimately a useful way for people to get a stronger sense of who the people are that they might choose to deal with online. It's also enjoyable to have space to break out a little bit & pitch your passion!
  3. I think AboutUs.org is awesome, I've read so many of the pages, and I've seen the pages being created right before my eyes....there's no experience in the world like that.
  4. AboutUs.org is an elegant and quick way to add wiki to your site.

Ward Quotes

  • "People like to talk. In creating wiki, I wanted to stroke that story-telling nature in all of us."
  • One's words are a gift to this community. For the wiki nature to take whole, you have to let go of your words. You have to be okay with that. This goes into the name, called refactoring. To collaborate on a work, one must trust. The reason the cooperation happens is we are people and it is deep in our nature to do things together.
