- About Abbeville
- Abbeville has earned the title of birthplace and deathbed of the Confederacy. On November 22, 1860, one of the first mass-organized secession meetings was held in Abbeville on Secession Hill and an ordinance of secession was sent down to the Capitol. On May 2,1865, Jefferson Davis held his last war council meeting in Abbeville at the Burt-Stark Mansion. Today, the Burt-Stark Mansion is open for tours by appointment.
