Your Character

When you join you are given a character and assigned to an academy ship if you wish; either the USS Challenger, USS Colubia, or the USS Discovery or USS Apollo. These will teach you the basics of role playing on board a Star Ship. Once you graduate the Academy your given the rank of ensign and assigned to a ship in one of the various fleets. There your goal is to progreess through the SIM experiencing the trials and tribulaions that a Star Trek character would experience including promotions, demotions, ambushes, distress calls, first contact with various peaceful and waring races all the time keeping to the style that the Star Trek series have lay down.

Ships and Ranks

A ship on STF is based on the USS navy rank structure, with the Commanding Officer (CO) being a captain or flag rank, the Executive Officer (XO) being a Commander or Lt. Cmd. and the other department heads including Chief of Security (COS) Chie Science Officer (CSO) Cheif Medical Officer (CMO) and Cheif Engineer often varying in rank from Lt. (j.g) to Lt. Cmd. Most of the junior officers on a ship are Ensigns though some are higher ranks. There are occasionally different positions including civillians, like bartenders, and tactical officers, counsilors and more. A captain of a ship can aprove or deny your character ideas as a way of making his ship more intersting or diveres or not in some cases.

as well as Outposts and starbases which also add to the diversity of STF, as its commonly abreviated, ships are what make the game. Ship classes vary in size and ability. There are small vessels, large vessels, science vessels, dreadnoughts, flag ships of there respective fleets, and so on. The game is run by a president and vice president as well as many departments. The Engineering department designs new ships and keeps the game fluid. Rather than just sticking with the same old ships, the Engineering Department, in a bid to keep the game as close to the TV series as possible, retires old ships, design new ones ect. This keeps the game moving and interesting.

The Gamemasters in the game are assigned to a ship and create sims, rather like episodes, which the characters must react to as if they were in star fleet. The Gamemasters department keeps new ideas flowing and keep logs of what species each ship encounters as well as wars and such which ships must mediate. It is possible for ships to fail these sims but mostly, if they keep to the Star Fleet protocols they can succeed. Gamemasters have strict rules to follow which are layed out in the Gamemasters department and constantly updated.
