From 1968 to 1991 a wealth of experience and expertise was gained from the employment of a few optical shops in the optical manufacturing business. That time went from learning the basics to quickly becoming involved with difficult operations in processing to developing methods and fabricating techniques for special and more complex types of optical components. This training combined with a prior mechanical engineering background provided a good foundation for the beginning of OPTEK Mfg.
OPTEK Mfg. started in 1991 as a fabrication methods business serving many optical shops in New England we were contracted to design fabrication processes and methods as well as perform the operations in the process that required a high degree of skill to accomplish. As we all know it takes many operations to produce an optical element, and with every operation it becomes more valuable due mostly to labor cost. Sometimes this work was performed by us at the companies facility and sometimes parts were sent to the OPTEK Mfg. facility at a specific point during fabrication for the critical operation and then returned to the company for completion. During this time we realized the need for expanding our abilities to include designing and building of widgets and gadgets as well as fixturing and mechanisms to achieve desired results. We still offer this service to optical shops but mostly cater to the optical user customer list we now enjoy including instrument manufacturers for the scientific community, medical applications and electro optical devices to name only a few.
Even with 32 years experience we still continue to learn new things and get new ideas all the time in order to provide you with high quality lenses, optical windows flats and prisms as well as various various shapes and configurations all made to your specific requirements. For example, we have developed a very unique process for the manufacture of very small windows, wedges and filters for use in detectors and sensors which allows us to maintain close tolerances and produce production quantities at a reasonable cost.
