Dare Not Walk Alone

Saturday, February 23 at 4:00 p.m.
Guest Speaker: NAACP Representative Sheila Pete

An emotional march from past to present combining rarely seen footage from 1964 with present day testimony to tell the true story of troubled times in the historic tourist town of St. Augustine, Florida. See African-Americans and their allies from the white community put their lives on the line to force the President to sign the first civil rights act. The film also looks at the aftermath of desegregation and the challenges that it presents to all Americans. In the end we see signs of hope and reconciliation and are challenged to take the next step forward.

Un Poquito de Tanta Verdad

(A Little Bit of So Much Truth)
Sunday, February 24 at 3:00 p.m.
Guest Speaker: Film Director Jill Freidberg

In the summer of 2006, a broad-based, non-violent, popular uprising exploded in Oaxaca, Mexico. It was the peopleʼs use of the media that truly made history, and the film captures the unprecedented phenomenon that emerged when tens of thousands of teachers, housewives, indigenous communities, health workers, farmers, and students took 14 radio stations and one TV station into their own hands, using them to organize, mobilize, and ultimately defend their grassroots struggle for social, cultural, and economic justice.

All screenings take place at The New Columbia Community Education Center, located at 4625 N. Trenton Street, Portland, 97203. Additional films will screen in late March and early May. Presented by Film Action Oregon and supported by The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences and The Bloomfield Family Foundation.
