MEON VALLEY ALPACAS were established in 1998 by Karen and Peter Oglesby. They live at Grooms Cottage, Droxford – home of Meon Valley Alpacas – with their daughter Rebecca, dressage horses, dog, cat, various small pets and their lovely herd of alpacas. Peter is a pilot and Karen is a dressage trainer.
"We moved to Grooms Cottage and its rather neglected 22 acres and stables just before Christmas 1997. Having spent a great deal of time, money and effort in clearing the land of brambles, fallen trees and general rubbish we realised that we had far too much grazing for our 6 horses. We looked at sheep quite seriously but decided that they seem to have too many problems and were a bit dull. So we followed our hearts and went for alpacas.
Starting Up Like many people just starting the price of females seemed rather daunting! We decided to buy two boys and see how we got on. We loved them and just over a year later we bought two pregnant females with female crias at foot. We suddenly had a herd. Meon Valley Alpacas was established.
