Description
Media Arc essentially grew out of a realisation among some of us Delhi based journalists that one way flow of communication, as in from media to people with very nominal interactivity wasn't exciting enough. The excessive emphasis in mainstream media on politics and politicians in a rather narrow sense only spurred us on to exploring the new media. New information technology has been offering far more interactive communication by way of chat fora. With bandwidth improving, and media streaming picking up, new technology seems a far more open and indeed democratic form of mass communication than the high cost mainstream media.
Incorporated in August 1998, Media Arc carved a niche for itself for launching India's first independent Internet radio station. The effort, seen as pioneering and much appreciated by the Indian diaspora, had listeners writing in, and sending voice mails from near and afar. Heady days! Over time, we have extended ourselves to creative new media applications, launch of Internet radio stations for others and training. This approach, we are glad to say, has put us on a more sustainable path.
