James Bond Villain Quiz: Lousiest Bond Villains

Aside from James Bond himself, what makes this movie franchise so big is the despicable set of villains and henchmen that our favorite fictional secret agent has to take down. From the very first Bond film in 1953 to its recent installment, Quantum of Solace, 007’s nemeses have become one of the reasons for the success of these James Bond Movies. They just make a good topic for a [James Bond villain quiz][1], don’t you think?

But then again, like any other successful movie ever made, there are just some villains that don’t necessarily fit the bill. Though remembered, the villain’s role might just be tagged as one of the lousiest performance in the film. Even the money-stashing James Bond films have their share of bad acting and unconvincingly evil villains.

This time, let’s take a look at some of the lousiest villains in James Bond’s life.

1. Kamal Khan from Octopussy The movie, Octopussy, is never meant to be forgotten easily (the title itself is unforgetable) for its amazing plot and action-packed scenes. However, the same cannot be said about the villain, Kamal Khan. Okay, so he really tried to overkill Bond by sending Gobinda and his thugs numerous times, and he tried stealing from the Kremline Jewel Depository, but doing these are not enough to make a villain THE villain.

Though villains might be over-the-top, there should still be some rooms for him to possibly exist in the real world. Kamal Khan is supposed to be an Afghan living in India, who only speaks English and cannot even utter a single Afghan or Indian word. What gives?

2. Renard from The World is Not Enough Renard has such great potentials to be a villain worth to be hatedly remembered. He is a ruthless killing machine that feels no pain because of a previous head injury. A villain who feels no pain is a sure trump card to send Bond fans celebrating when the said villain is foiled. Because of his characteristics, he has been a major topic for James Bond villain quiz.

Renard could have been a great character, but seeing him follow each and every command of his girlfriend, Elektra King just blows the whole thing off. This just goes to show that when villains fall in love, they become lame.

3. Nick Nack from The Man with a Golden Gun First of all, his name is a problem. Hearing his name reminds me of a kiddie snack. Secondly, he’s just too small (no offense meant to small people) to be a villain. Thirdly, the way James Bond got rid of him was preposterous. James Bond apparently stuffed him inside a luggage. Enough said.

4. Gustav Graves from Die Another Day There are a lot of villains who look really good on screen, but Gustav Graves just don’t seem like a convincing villain for me. His former self as a Korean killing-freak fits the title more. Oh, well, he’s good looking, so it’s forgivable.

5. Hugo Drax from Moonraker His methods of killing Bond were fantastic: shooting, burning with space shuttle rockets, strangling with a boa constrictor. James Bond villain quiz: So why is he part of this list?

The answer is pretty simple. This murderous character could be a really great villain except for a case of bad acting. Looking like you’re about to bomb a building is not enough. Exuding a villainous appeal through your facial expressions and acting is a huge factor. Hugo Drax just didn’t do that in this film. In half of his screen shots, he looked lazy. In the other half, he looked constipated.

A James Bond film is not only famous for James Bond, but mostly for the villains in his life. James Bond would never be as interesting and suave without these evil men who just make him look good than ever. However, I hope that Bond films would end the monstrous cycle of putting in the mix a number of lousy villains. If so, instead of a James Bond villain quiz, there might be a James Bond lousy villain quiz popping up our screens.
