LINDY HOP is an exciting dance that originated in New York City in the 1930's. Based on an 8-count rhythm, it is a soulful expression of Big Band jazz music of the 30's and 40's.

These Big Bands were highly influential in the evolution of jazz and other music throughout the world. Duke Ellington, Chick Webb, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Lionel Hampton, Erskine Hawkins, Nina Simone, Sarah Vaughan, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Jimmy Dorsey, etc.

All of these artists can be counted among the great musicians who provided the infectious dance music that jitterbugs still love to dance to today. The evolution of LINDY HOP has led its combination with other dance forms, including hip-hop, break dancing, and more. This dance form lends itself to style, improvisation, musicality AND, most importantly, FUN!!!
