- The artist began his career early on, with a crayon in his hand and paper on the walls. Access to comic books, Gray's Anatomy, slide books of famous works and science fiction movies fueled his creative inspiration, and by age 15, was winning awards at comic convention drawing competitions.
- By 1996, using magazines and photos as reference materials was proving to be too limiting, and Alex began attending the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia, an altelier co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. Learning the traditional methods and anatomical studies allowed his work to achieve a depth and realism that continues to define his style.
